NHL Entry Draft
|
The 2015 NHL Entry Draft took place on June 26th and 27th, 2015, making it the 53rd edition of this event . The venue was the BB&T Center in Sunrise in the US state of Florida .
In seven rounds, the NHL franchises selected 211 players, with Connor McDavid as expected in first place and Jack Eichel in second place; followed Dylan Strome at position three. The draft was characterized by a large number of franchise swaps, for example the Boston Bruins had the most voting rights with 10 picks. In addition, Song Andong (172nd position) became the first player of Chinese origin to be drafted this year .
Available players
All players born between January 1, 1995 and September 15, 1997 are eligible for the draft. In addition, all undrafted, non-North American players over the age of 20 are eligible for the draft. Also available are those players who were elected in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft and who had not signed an entry contract with their original draft club by the time of the 2015 Entry Draft .
Draft order
|
|
The draft order of all teams that did not reach the play-offs in the 2014/15 season will be determined by the draft lottery. Each of these 14 teams has a certain chance of receiving the first right to vote. However, the probabilities introduced in 2013 were changed in this draft so that the odds for the worst four teams were significantly reduced and those of the remaining ten teams were increased slightly. For example, the chance of the team with the worst points decreased from 25% to 20%, while that of 14th place increased from 0.5% to 1%. The change was justified with the increasing equilibrium of the sporting competition.
The Draft Lottery, which took place on April 18, was won by the Edmonton Oilers , who secured their fourth First Overall Draft Pick in six years.
The draft order of the 16 play-off participants will be determined after the Stanley Cup final. The Stanley Cup winner is placed on position 30, the final opponent on position 29. The teams eliminated in the conference finals are sorted into positions 27 and 28. The remaining play-off teams are seeded based on their standings in the regular season. The rule is that the team with the fewest table points is in 15th position. The draft order applies to all rounds of the Entry Draft, so the lottery only changes the order of the first voting round. In addition, the teams can acquire voting rights from other teams via transfers and give their own to other teams.
