Brendan Lemieux (born March 15, 1996 in Denver , Colorado ) is an American - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League (NHL) since February 2019 and is on the left for them Winger plays.
Career
Brendan Lemieux is the son of former ice hockey player Claude Lemieux and was born in Denver , where his father played for the Colorado Avalanche in the National Hockey League (NHL).
In his youth, Brendan Lemieux played for the Green Bay Gamblers in the United States Hockey League (USHL) from 2012 and moved to the Barrie Colts in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) during the 2012/13 season . He distinguished himself at the Colts by his aggressive style of play and was one of the team's top 5 scorers. In the final 2014 ranking of the NHL Central Scouting Service, he was ranked 28th and selected for participation in the 2014 CHL Top Prospects Game . In the NHL Entry Draft 2014 Lemieux was considered in the second round in 31st position by the Buffalo Sabers , but initially continued to play for the Barrie Colts.
In February 2015, Lemieux was transferred to the Winnipeg Jets along with Tyler Myers , Joel Armia , Drew Stafford and a first-round vote in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft , in return the Sabers received Evander Kane , Zach Bogosian and the rights to Jason Kasdorf . He received an NHL entry-level contract from the Jets in July 2015 .
In December 2015 he was transferred from the Colts to the Windsor Spitfires , his last stint in the junior division. Towards the end of the 2015/16 season he wore the jersey of the Manitoba Moose , the Jets farm team , in the American Hockey League (AHL) for the first time. He made his NHL debut for the Winnipeg Jets on October 20, 2017 in the home game against the Minnesota Wild , and scored his first goal in the NHL nine days later in a 7-1 home win against the Pittsburgh Penguins . As a result, the attacker established himself in the NHL with the start of the 2018/19 season . In February 2019, he was given a conditional first-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft 2019 or 2020 and a conditional four-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft 2022 , provided the Jets win the Stanley Cup in 2019 , in exchange for Kevin Hayes to the New York Rangers handed in.
International
Lemieux won the gold medal with Team Canada at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2013 .
