Micheal Haley (born March 30, 1986 in Guelph , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the New York Rangers from the National Hockey League since October 2019 and plays for them on the position of the center . Haley embodies the Enforcer type of player .
Career
Haley - a so-called enforcer or grinder - played during his junior years between 2002 and 2007 for the Sarnia Sting and Toronto St. Michael's Majors , to whom he was transferred in December 2005, in the Ontario Hockey League . During this period, the striker completed a total of 286 games in the Canadian Junior League and collected 127 points scorer , including 69 goals.
Upon completion of the 2006-07 season in the junior Haley joined ungedraftet the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL , where he finished the game year. Then he took the Bridgeport Sound Tigers from the American Hockey League under contract. There the Canadian spent the 2007/08 season , as well as with the Utah Grizzlies from the ECHL. The 2008/09 season he spent entirely with the Sound Tigers. From the 2009/10 season, the Canadian came to sporadic missions with the cooperation partner, the New York Islanders from the National Hockey League , until his commitment there ended in the summer of 2012 and he joined the organization of the New York Rangers . There he came between 2012 and 2014 both in the NHL and in their farm teams Connecticut Whale and Hartford Wolf Pack in the AHL.
For the 2014/15 season , Haley joined the San Jose Sharks as a free agent . There, too, he played in the NHL for the next two years and for the farm teams Worcester Sharks and San Jose Barracuda in the AHL, before making it into the NHL squad in the 2016/17 season . When his contract expired in the summer of 2017, he moved to the Florida Panthers again as a free agent in July 2017 and signed a two-year contract with the Panthers. A few weeks earlier, Bob Boughner, the former assistant coach of the Sharks, had been employed there as head coach. In the following 2017/18 season , Haley led the entire NHL in penalty minutes (212), a large part of which resulted from fist fights. In the following game year, the attacker was only used sporadically and only played 24 games for Florida by February 2019. When trying to send him to the AHL via the waiver , he was selected by his ex-team from San Jose to take over his contract that ran until the end of the season. This was not renewed the following summer, so he joined the New York Rangers again as a free agent in October 2019. For this he played 22 games before he was out due to a muscle injury until the end of the season.
