The Sarnia Sting are a Canadian ice hockey team from Sarnia , Ontario . The junior team moved to Sarnia in 1994 and plays in one of the three highest Canadian junior ice hockey leagues , the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

history

In 1994 brothers Robert and Dino Ciccarelli bought the Newmarket Royals franchise and relocated it from Newmarket , Ontario to their hometown of Sarnia and renamed it Sarnia Sting. The Junior B team of the Sarnia Bees was forced to change its name to Steeplejacks in 1995 in order to avoid the more powerful competition from the OHL. The reason for this was that the Sarnia Sting logo shows a bee with the stinger extended. Robert Ciccarelli was named OHL Executive of the Year in the 1999/2000 season for his contributions to the franchise . So far, the team has only been able to win its own division in the 2003/04 season. In the playoffs you never got beyond the second round, in which they failed in 1996 at the Peterborough Petes , and in 1997 and 2008 at the Kitchener Rangers .
