Dino Ciccarelli (born February 8, 1960 in Sarnia , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and official of Italian descent who played 1373 games for the Minnesota North Stars , Washington Capitals , Detroit Red Wings during his playing career between 1976 and 1999 , Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League on the right winger position . Ciccarelli's career, in which he competed four times in the NHL All-Star Game , was crowned with his induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2010.

Career

Ciccarelli began his junior career with the London Knights in Ontario's highest junior league . Due to an injury, his third season there was not so successful and no team wanted to get him, who was a year earlier in the OHA All Star Team, in the draft. The Minnesota North Stars signed him in September 1979 and after the season in London was over he was allowed to play a few games with the Stars' farm team in Oklahoma.

The 1980/81 season he began again in Oklahoma, but towards the middle of the season he made his breakthrough in the National Hockey League . He was always among the top scorers of the team before he was handed over to the Washington Capitals in March 1989 . In return, the Capitals gave Mike Gartner and Larry Murphy to the stars. In Washington, too, he was the top scorer in his first full season. After three years in the American capital, he moved to the Detroit Red Wings . After four seasons with the Red Wings, in which he made it to the final of the Stanley Cup , he went to Florida, but not yet to retire. After a year and a half in Tampa, he made a short detour to the Florida Panthers before ending his career.

Together with his brother Robert, Ciccarelli acquired the rights to the Newmarket Royals from the Ontario Hockey League in 1994 , which they relocated to Sarnia , where the team has since played under the name Sarnia Sting .

In 2010 he was honored with the induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame .
