The Owen Sound Attack are a junior ice hockey franchise from Owen Sound in Canada Ontario . They have been playing in the Ontario Hockey League since 2000 .
history
The OHL franchise in Owen Sound originated in 1989 when the Guelph Platers were relocated from Guelph to Owen Sound. They started playing for the 1989/90 OHL season. The team name was initially Owen Sound Platers .
In the summer of 2000, the team from the Holody family was sold to a group of investors consisting of seven local business people. At first there was relocation in the room. However, this plan was rejected. With the new owners, the name changed to Owen Sound Attack. This name was chosen because it looked more modern than the old name Platers. In the 2004/05 season, Michael Futa received the OHL Executive of the Year award and the team was chosen to host the OHL All-Star Classic.
In the 2010/11 season, the team won the OHL championship for the first time, the J. Ross Robertson Cup , with a win in the final series against the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors . The team from Owen Sound prevailed in seven games and won the decisive seventh away game in Mississauga with a goal in overtime 3-2.
