Wayne Michael Primeau (born June 4, 1976 in Scarborough , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 864 games for the Buffalo Sabers , Tampa Bay Lightning , Pittsburgh Penguins , San Jose Sharks , Boston Bruins , Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League on the position of the center has denied. However, Primeau celebrated his greatest career success in the service of the Rochester Americans by winning the Calder Cup of the American Hockey League in 1996.
Career
Wayne Primeau began his career in 1992 in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League with the Owen Sound Platers . He was selected in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabers in the first round at position 17. He also completed his first game in the National Hockey League in the 1994/95 season and immediately scored his first goal, but was then sent back to the OHL, where he moved to the Oshawa Generals during the season . 1995/96 Primeau came in some games of the Sabers and their farm team , the Rochester Americans in the AHL , for use, but most of the season he continued to play in the OHL.
In 1996/97 he finally made the leap to the pros and played the season with the Sabers and the Americans. He took over the role of the team as a striker in the checking line and reached the 1999 Stanley Cup final with the Sabers , which they lost to the Dallas Stars .
During the 1999/2000 season , Primeau was transferred to the Tampa Bay Lightning , but after less than a year they sent him on to the Pittsburgh Penguins . He played there for two years before the San Jose Sharks signed him in a March 2003 transfer. With San Jose he played a successful 2003/04 season that ended in the final of the Western Conference.
After the season he was an unrestricted free agent , but decided after the failure of the 2004/05 NHL season to sign a new contract in San Jose. In November 2005, Primeau was sent in a "blockbuster" transfer along with Marco Sturm and Brad Stuart to the Boston Bruins , which superstar Joe Thornton gave to San Jose. The Boston season ended disappointingly by missing the playoffs . On February 10, 2007, the Canadian was transferred again. Since his contract expired at the end of the season and the Bruins did not expect that he would extend his contract, they handed him over to Calgary together with Brad Stuart and a draft law . In return, Boston received Chuck Kobasew and Andrew Ference .
After the 2008/09 season , the Canadian was transferred to the Toronto Maple Leafs with a second-round draft pick , the Flames received Anton Strålman , Colin Stuart and a seventh-round draft pick in return .
Primeau was a good defensive striker who was mainly used in the checking line and outnumbered because of his physical toughness. In the NHL, however, he could never reach the scorer performances that he had shown in his time as a junior in the OHL.
