The Owen Sound Platers were a Canadian ice hockey team from Owen Sound , Ontario . The team played from 1989 to 2000 in one of the top three Canadian junior ice hockey leagues, the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
history
The Guelph Platers were relocated from Guelph , Ontario to Owen Sound , Ontario in 1989 by their owners, the Holody family, and renamed the Owen Sound Platers.
In its eleven-year existence, the team only missed the playoffs in the 1990/91 and 1999/2000 seasons, but never reached the final of the J. Ross Robertson Cup . Their most successful season was the 1998/99 season, when the Owen Sound Platers after victories over Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Guelph Storm only lost to the London Knights 1: 4 in the Conference finals .
The Holody family decided to sell the franchise in 2000. To prevent the team from relocating, a group of seven local investors joined forces to acquire the rights to the franchise and rename it Owen Sound Attack .
