The Niagara IceDogs are a Canadian ice hockey team from St. Catharines . The team was founded in 2007 as a youth team and has since played in one of the three highest Canadian junior ice hockey leagues, the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

history

The Mississauga IceDogs were relocated to St. Catharines , in the Niagara Region , in 2007, where they have since played as the Niagara IceDogs in the Ontario Hockey League. Previously, Bill Burke had bought the rights to the franchise from Eugene Melnyk , owner of the Ottawa Senators and founder of Biovali , who in turn acquired the rights to the Toronto St. Michael's Majors from St. Michael's College to be named Mississauga St. Michael's Majors in to let the OHL play.

In their first season, the Niagara IceDogs finished second in their division and made it to the Conferences semifinals after beating the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors with a sweep in the best-of-seven series. There they were defeated by the Oshawa Generals with 2: 4 victories. In the 2008/09 season they finished fourth in the Central Division and defeated the Ottawa 67’s just 4: 3 in the playoffs in the Conference quarter-finals before they failed in the Conference semi-finals with 1: 4 wins against the Belleville Bulls .
