Jamieson "Jamie" Oleksiak (born December 21, 1992 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a Canadian - American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League since January 2019 .
Career
Jamie Oleksiak began his career as a hockey player in the junior league United States Hockey League , in which he was active from 2008 to 2010 for the Chicago Steel and Sioux Falls Stampede. He then attended Northeastern University for a year , for whose ice hockey team he played parallel in Hockey East . He was then selected in the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft as the 14th player by the Dallas Stars . The 2011/12 season began the defender with the Saginaw Spirit from the Canadian top junior league Ontario Hockey League and finished it with their league rivals Niagara IceDogs . With the Niagara IceDogs he reached the playoff final for the J. Ross Robertson Cup , but lost in this with his team to the London Knights with 1: 4 wins.
The season 2012/13 , which was shortened due to a lockout , began Oleksiak with the Texas Stars , the cooperation partner of his draft team Dallas Stars, in the American Hockey League , where he was able to convince right away. After the start of the NHL season, he was appointed by the Dallas Stars in their NHL squad, for which he made his debut in the league. After about six years in Dallas, during which the defender was never really able to establish himself in the NHL line-up, the Stars handed him over to the Pittsburgh Penguins in December 2017 and in return received a four-round vote for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft . There Oleksiak was regularly on the ice in the NHL, but was transferred back to Dallas in January 2019, while the identical four-round suffrage moved back to Pittsburgh.
International
For the USA Oleksiak took part in the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament in 2009 . However, he later decided to play for Canada from now on . For the Canadians, he ran at the U20 World Junior Championship in 2012 , where he won the bronze medal with his team.
