Career

The 1.91 m tall striker began his career with the London Knights in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League before being selected as the 28th player in the first round in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim .

In the 2003/04 season the right shooter in was AHL - Play-offs in Anaheim - farm team , the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks used, but he returned the next season for now back to the Knights, with whom he 2005 Memorial Cup , the Canadian Junior Championship, won. In December 2003, Kevin Lowe , the general manager of Edmonton Oilers , had planned a barter to acquire the rights to Perry. Mike Comrie would have been transferred to Anaheim in his place. The swap never happened because Comrie would have had to pay a large sum for this transfer. After the achievements recognized by the OHL with several awards, including the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award , the Red Tilson Trophy and the election to the OHL First All-Star Team , Perry completed 56 games for the Mighty in the 2005/06 season Ducks of Anaheim, scoring 13 goals and twelve assists .

Also in the 2006/07 season , Corey Perry was on the ice for the California franchise , which now played under the name Anaheim Ducks . That same year he won the Stanley Cup with the Ducks for the first time in his career . In January 2008, the striker was nominated for the first time for an NHL All-Star Game . About six months later, Perry signed a new five-year contract valued at $ 26.625 million that ties him to the Californians until 2013. In the 2008-09 season he scored for the first time over 30 goals in the regular season for the Californians. Perry confirmed this constant performance in the following season when he scored at least one scorer point in 19 NHL games in a row.

In early April 2011, Perry was named NHL Player of the Month for the first time in his career after scoring 15 goals and 21 points in 14 games the previous month. He finished the 2010/11 season with 50 goals and 98 points and won the Maurice 'Rocket' Richard Trophy as top scorer. Only Teemu Selänne (52 goals in the 1997/98 season) has scored more goals in a regular season in the history of the Ducks. Together with Alexander Ovetschkin , Perry led the NHL with eleven winning goals. A little later he was also honored with the Hart Memorial Trophy as Most Valuable Player of the season.

In November 2011, the London Knights honored the best scorer in their franchise history by permanently banning Perry's shirt number 94.

In March 2013, Perry signed a new eight-year contract with the Ducks that should bring him an average annual salary of $ 8.625 million. On June 19, 2019, his contract, which was still running for two years, was paid out early (buy-out) . He subsequently joined the Dallas Stars in July 2019 as a free agent under a one-year contract . In his jersey, he played his 1000th game of the regular season in the NHL in November 2019.

International

With the Canadian U20 national team, Perry won the gold medal at the 2005 World Cup . Together with Sidney Crosby and Patrice Bergeron , he was part of the Canadians' front row throughout the tournament. In 2010, he won at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver the gold medal. In the final, the Canadians prevailed 3-2 after extra time against the United States. Also in 2014 he was Olympic champion with the Canadian national team.

In 2016 he won the gold medal with Team Canada at the Ice Hockey World Championship and was then accepted as the 27th member of the Triple Gold Club . He also represented his home country at the World Cup of Hockey 2016 and won the gold medal there with the team.
