Walter "Babe" Pratt (born January 7, 1916 in Stony Mountain , Manitoba , † December 16, 1988 in Vancouver , British Columbia ) was a Canadian ice hockey player who from 1935 to 1947 for the New York Rangers , Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins played in the National Hockey League .
Career
He traveled by freight train from his home in Manitoba to play for the "Kenora Thistles" and won 15 titles in his 26-year career. He won the Stanley Cup for the first time with the New York Rangers in 1940. Together with Ott Heller, his line of defense was instrumental in the fact that his team only conceded 77 goals in 48 games. Four years later he was the strongest player in the league in Toronto and won his second Stanley Cup there in 1945, scoring the decisive goal in the final game.
As a player-coach, he was still active with the New Westminster Royals after the NHL.
After his active career, he worked for the Vancouver Canucks from 1970 . There he also died at the Pacific Coloseum during a Canucks game.
In 1966 he was honored with the induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame .
