Thomas Linton "Tommy" Anderson (born July 9, 1911 in Edinburgh , Scotland , Great Britain ; † September 15, 1971 ) was a Canadian ice hockey player (defender) and coach who worked for the Detroit Red Wings and New York Americans from 1934 to 1942 and Brooklyn Americans played in the National Hockey League .

Career

Born in Scotland, he grew up in Calgary. He played with the Philadelphia Arrows in the Canadian-American Hockey League .

In the 1934/35 season he played partially with the Detroit Red Wings in the NHL and in the IHL at the Detroit Olympics with which he could also win the title. For the 1935/36 season he was sold to the New York Americans . In his seven years with the Americans, he scored four times more than ten goals as a defender. He had little success with his team, but was one of the league's strong defenders. He had his best season in 1941/42 . As the most valuable player in the league, he was awarded the Hart Memorial Trophy . After the season, the Americans stopped playing and Anderson joined the military. He played for the Calgary Currie Army for the next few years .

After a few seasons in the lower grades, he became a coach for the Oshawa Generals . He later also stood behind the gang of the Pittsburgh Hornets , the then farm team of the Toronto Maple Leafs , and with the Calgary Stampeders .
