In the 1941/42 season, the name Brooklyn Americans was adopted , although the team never played in Brooklyn . It was hoped to be able to differentiate themselves from the New York Rangers and to find supporters among the residents of Brooklyn. The plan failed and the team was disbanded in 1942.

Billy Burch had come from the Hamilton Tigers , where he was the only award winner. In the Americans, too, he was the first to receive a personal award. A year later, Roy Worters won the Hart Memorial Trophy , and in 1931 he also won the Vezina Trophy . Sweeney Schriner was the best rookie in 1935, he was denied another trophy because the best scorer had not yet been awarded the Art Ross Trophy . He twice led the league in scorer points. In 1937 he was one of three players who were elected to the Second All-Star Team .
