Charles William "Charlie" Conacher (born December 20, 1909 in Toronto , Ontario ; † December 30, 1967 ) was a Canadian ice hockey player who worked for the Toronto Maple Leafs , Detroit Red Wings and New York Americans in National Hockey from 1929 to 1941 League played.
Career
Conacher grew up in a Toronto slum, and while his older brother Lionel , later voted Canada's athlete of the first half of the 20th century, was a star in ice hockey, football , lacrosse, and baseball , the poor skater was still playing at Jesse Ketchum Park. Conacher worked hard on his technique and by 1929 he was ready for the NHL. During the first season, he got in line with Joe Primeau and Busher Jackson and formed the "Kid Line" with them. He had the hardest shot in the NHL and powered Toronto's front row. While he showed himself to be a gentleman in daily life, he could do other things too. In the event of a disagreement with his teammate Baldy Cotton, he convinced the latter of his position by holding him out of the window on the seventh floor. Injuries forced him to retire at the age of 31, which culminated with winning the Stanley Cup in 1932.
He died of esophageal cancer shortly after his 58th birthday .
In 1961 he was honored with the induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame . After Roy Conacher was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998, the Conachers are the only three brothers in the Hall of Fame with Charlie, Lionel and Roy.
His son Pete also played in the NHL.
