Michael Lee "Dale" Tallon (born October 19, 1950 in Rouyn-Noranda , Québec ) is a former Canadian ice hockey defender and current - functional . Most recently, he served as General Manager of the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey League from 2017 to 2020 , having previously held the same position with the Chicago Blackhawks .
Career as a player
Dale Tellon began his career as a hockey player in the 1967/68 season with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey Association . From 1968 to 1970 the Canadian played for two years for league rivals Toronto Marlboros . During the NHL Amateur Draft in 1970 he was selected as the overall second player behind Gilbert Perreault by the Vancouver Canucks , for whom he played the next three years in the National Hockey League . On May 14, 1973, the defense attorney was given to the Chicago Black Hawks in exchange for Jerry Korab and Gary Smith . Tallon played in Chicago for a total of five years and also played seven games in the Central Hockey League for the Dallas Black Hawks , the then Chicago farm team . On October 9, 1978 Tallon was given in exchange for a second-round suffrage to the Pittsburgh Penguins , for which he was active for another two years in the NHL. In his last professional season Tallon also completed six games for the Syracuse Firebirds from the American Hockey League . He then ended his active career.
For the Summit Series 1972 Tallon was appointed to the squad of the Canadian national team, but used in no match.
General manager career
After his career, Tallon worked for a total of 16 years as a TV and radio commentator on games of the Chicago Blackhawks . His last position was in the 2002/03 season . From 1998 to 2002 Tallon was the sports director of the Blackhawks and was appointed Assistant General Manager to Bob Pulford on November 5, 2003 , whose post he took over on June 21, 2005.
Dale Tallon was named general manager of the Florida Panthers on May 17, 2010 , replacing Randy Sexton in that position. After six years, he was named President of Hockey Operations in May 2016 , with his previous assistant Tom Rowe taking over as General Manager. However, after a season in which Rowe sacked head coach Gerard Gallant and served as interim coach himself, Tallon returned as general manager of the team in April 2017. He held this position until the end of the 2019/20 season, when the Canadian's expiring contract was not extended by mutual agreement.
