John Sheratt "Black Jack" Stewart (born May 6, 1917 in Pilot Mound , Manitoba ; † May 26, 1983 in Troy , Michigan , USA ) was a Canadian ice hockey player who worked for the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Black Hawks from 1938 to 1952 played in the National Hockey League .

Career

It is not certain whether Stewart was nicknamed "Black Jack" because of his black hair or because of the poise he brought to the ice. He corresponded to the defensive defender found in the textbook. In the 1940s he was one of the NHL's strongest defenders, as evidenced by 5 nominations for the All-Star Team. He won the Stanley Cup in 1943 and 1950 with the Detroit Red Wings . Together with Harry Lumley , he was given to the Chicago Black Hawks in 1950 . In return, Gaye Stewart came to the Black Hawks.

After his active career, he worked as a coach in lower leagues.

In 1964 he was honored with the induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame .
