Adrian Mark Aucoin (born July 3, 1973 in Ottawa , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach who played 1170 games for the Vancouver Canucks , Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Islanders between 1991 and 2013 , Chicago Blackhawks , Calgary Flames , Phoenix Coyotes and Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League on the defender position . Aucoin celebrated his greatest career success in the jersey of the Canadian national team by winning the silver medal at the 1994 Winter Olympics .
Career
As a teenager he played for Boston University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . In the 1992 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the fifth round in 117th place by the Vancouver Canucks . He played for the Canadian national ice hockey team for two years and won the Junior World Championship in 1993. At the Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer , he won the silver medal.
For the 1993/94 season Vancouver brought him to his farm team , to the Hamilton Canucks in the American Hockey League . For the following season, Syracuse Crunch was the Canucks' new AHL farm team, and Aucoin was also brought to his first game in the NHL. In his first game against the San Jose Sharks on May 3, 1995, he scored his first goal. He made his breakthrough in the NHL in the 1995/96 season . He had his best season in 1998/99 , when he shone with 23 goals and 34 points. He played for Canada at the 2000 World Cup .
At the end of the 2000/01 season he moved to Tampa Bay Lightning , but stayed there for only 26 games. From the 2001/02 season for the New York Islanders in the three seasons in New York, he was very successful. In the first year he set his best performance of 34 points and rose in the following years up to 31 templates and 44 points in the 2003/04 season .
This was followed by the 2004/05 NHL strike season , which he spent in the Swedish Elitserien at MODO Hockey . For the 2005/06 season he signed the Chicago Blackhawks , but initially an injury threw him back. In Chicago he plays a much more defensive role than on his previous teams. In Chicago he was also the team captain . After two unsuccessful seasons, he was transferred to the Calgary Flames in the summer of 2007 . After two seasons in the dress of the Calgary Flames, three of the Phoenix Coyotes and one in the jersey of the Columbus Blue Jackets , Aucoin ended his active career after the 2012/13 season .
