Cecil Henry "Babe" Dye (born May 13, 1898 in Hamilton , Ontario , † January 2, 1962 in Chicago , Illinois , USA ) was a Canadian ice hockey player who worked for the Toronto St. Patricks , Hamilton Tigers , Chicago from 1919 to 1931 Black Hawks and New York Americans played in the National Hockey League .
Career
Already a star in football, he had a $ 25,000 offer from the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team when he was loaned to Hamilton by Toronto St. Patricks in 1919 . In his first game he scored twice and was immediately ordered back to Toronto. After he was the top scorer in the league in 1923, he wanted to try his hand at baseball the following season and did not return to the ice until December. So of course he couldn't defend his title, but he should succeed again next year. He won his only Stanley Cup in Toronto in 1922. At the age of 31, a broken leg ended the career of the small, dangerous striker.
After retiring as an active player, Dye served as the head coach of the Chicago Shamrocks and St. Louis Flyers in the American Hockey Association .
In 1970 he was honored with the induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame .
