Cyril Joseph "Cy" Denneny (born December 23, 1891 in Farran's Point , Ontario ; † September 10, 1970 in Ottawa , Ontario) was a Canadian ice hockey player and coach who worked for the Ottawa Senators and the Boston Bruins in 1917-1929 played the National Hockey League .

Career

Denneny played with the Toronto Shamrocks in the National Hockey Association . Within the league, he moved to the Toronto Blueshirts , where he became one of the league's top scorers.

When the NHL was founded, he was already 25 years old. He played in a series with Jack Darragh and Frank Nighbor for the Ottawa Senators . There he had to take over the physical part. Later he was given the robust Broadbent Punch . In the first nine years of the league, he was almost always at the top of the scorer list. He usually did not achieve this placement due to many assists, he preferred to score the goals himself. There are only 69 assists against his 246 goals.

After his Stanley Cup successes in Ottawa in 1920, 1921, 1923 and 1927, he won the Cup as a player - coach in 1929 for the fifth time. He also coached the Ottawa Senators in their final season. After the team moved, he moved to the Boston Bruins .

In 1959 he was honored with the induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame .
