Frank Nighbor (born January 26, 1893 in Pembroke , Ontario ; † April 13, 1966 ibid) was a Canadian ice hockey player who played for the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League from 1923 to 1937 .

Career

As a center, who could convince both offensively and defensively, he played successfully with the Toronto Blueshirts as early as 1912 . He moved to the west coast and was able to win the Stanley Cup there in 1915 with the Vancouver Millionaires . When the NHL went into its first season, Frank Nighbor was already 24 years old. Now in Ottawa he was able to win the Stanley Cup four times with the Senators in 1920 , 1921 , 1923 and 1927 . Even if he was convincing on the offensive, his particular strength was the role of a defensive striker. When the NHL introduced personal honors, he was the first winner of both the Hart Memorial Trophy and the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy , which he received personally from the wife of the Canadian governor, Lady Byng. His fans called him the "Flying Dutchman" and the "Pembroke Peach". In 1929 he moved to Toronto, but ended his career there after half a season.

In 1947 he was honored with the induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame .
