Albert Charles "Babe" Siebert (born January 14, 1904 in Plattsville , Ontario ; † August 25, 1939 ) was a Canadian ice hockey player who worked for the Montréal Canadiens , Montreal Maroons , New York Rangers and Boston Bruins in the National from 1925 to 1939 Hockey League played.
Career
Siebert was born in Plattsville in 1904, but grew up in Zurich ( Ontario ). He first played in Kitchener and Niagara Falls . He started in the NHL with the Montreal Maroons in 1925 and won the Stanley Cup in his first season . Together with Hooley Smith and Nels Stewart he formed the S-Line, one of the best storm series of its time. Siebert joined the New York Rangers in 1932 and won his second Stanley Cup there. In the course of the following season his path continued to the Boston Bruins . At the request of the new Canadiens coach, Siebert was brought back to Montreal together with Howie Morenz in 1936 . Now over 30 years old, Siebert was used as a defender and was able to win the Hart Memorial Trophy in this position . He played for the Canadiens until 1939 and was to move behind the gang as a coach in the coming season. Before the beginning of the 1939/40 season, Babe Siebert died in a swimming accident.
For the third time in NHL history, an All-Star Game was initiated. The proceeds went to Siebert's family.
In 1964 he was honored with the induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame .
