Michael John "Mike" Keane (born May 29, 1967 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 1381 games for the Canadiens de Montréal , Colorado Avalanche , New York Rangers , Dallas Stars , St. Louis Blues and Vancouver Canucks played in the National Hockey League on the position of right winger . Keane is one of only eleven players in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup with three different teams - in 1993 with the Canadiens de Montréal, in 1996 with the Colorado Avalanche and in 1999 with the Dallas Stars. He spent the last five years of his playing career with the Manitoba Moose in the American Hockey League , which banned their former team captain's jersey number 12 in February 2011 .

Career

Keane played with Mark MacKay , Theoren Fleury and Kelly Buchberger at the Moose Jaw Warriors in the Western Hockey League during his junior years . After he was not selected in the NHL Entry Draft , he signed as a free agent with the Canadiens de Montréal . At the Junior World Championships in 1987 he played for Canada . Then he came to some stakes in the American Hockey League with the Canadiens de Sherbrooke , where he spent the entire 1987/88 season.

In the 1988/89 season he made his breakthrough in the NHL with his robust and disinterested style of play . His most successful season with the Canadiens he had season 1992/93 . With 45 templates and 60 points, he set personal bests. At the end of that season he won the Stanley Cup with the Canadiens . The strike-related short season 1994/95 was the only one in which he and his team did not reach the playoffs. Shortly after the beginning of the following season, the Canadiens parted ways with their long-time goalkeeper Patrick Roy , in this swap also Keane switched to the Colorado Avalanche , who in return sent Jocelyn Thibault , Martin Ručínský and Andrei Kowalenko to Montréal. In his first season in 1995/96 he was able to win the Stanley Cup again.

In the summer of 1997 he signed as a free agent with the New York Rangers , but before the end of the season he was given to the Dallas Stars together with Brian Skrudland , who sent Todd Harvey and Bob Errey to the Rangers for it. In the 1998/99 season he was able to win his third Stanley Cup with the third different team. His next stop was the St. Louis Blues , with which he signed as a free agent in July 2001, but like in New York this station was short-lived. The Colorado Avalanche brought him back for Shjon Podein in February 2002.

After the Avalanche did not renew his contract, he signed a contract with the Vancouver Canucks shortly after the start of the 2003/04 season . That was his last season in the NHL. After the NHL went on strike for a season, he moved to the AHL for the Manitoba Moose , for whom he played from 2005 to 2010. During the 2006/07 season , Keane took part as team captain in the AHL All-Star Classic . At the end of the season, the right winger received the Fred T. Hunt Memorial Award . Keane also held the position of team captain at the Manitoba Moose and was always a regular player there. After ending his playing career, the franchise banned his number 12 shirt in February 2011.
