Andrei Nikolajewitsch Kowalenko ( Russian Андрей Николаевич Коваленко ; born June 7, 1970 in Balakovo , Russian SFSR ) is a former Russian ice hockey player .

During his Soviet period he played for Gorky Torpedo and HK CSKA Moscow . At the NHL Entry Draft in 1990 he was selected in the 8th round in 148th place by the Quebec Nordiques . In 1992 he moved to the Nordiques in the National Hockey League . With the team he moved to Denver, where the team played as the Colorado Avalanche . In order to bring Mike Keane but above all Patrick Roy to Denver, he would be handed over to the Montréal Canadiens with Martin Ručínský and Jocelyn Thibault . Other stations were the Edmonton Oilers , Philadelphia Flyers , Carolina Hurricanes and Boston Bruins . For the 2001/02 season he moved back to Russia and played for Lokomotive Yaroslavl , in 2004/05 he moved to HK Avangard Omsk , but for the 2005/06 season he moved on to Severstal Tscherepowez .
On May 13, 1990, he was appointed to the team of the Soviet national ice hockey team. After the collapse of the Soviet Union , he was first a member of the United Team and then the Russian national ice hockey team . His international career was crowned with a gold medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics and a silver medal in 1998 . In 1992 he was inducted into the " Russian Hockey Hall of Fame ".
