Max Pacioretty (born November 20, 1988 in New Canaan , Connecticut ) is an American ice hockey player . The left winger has been under contract with the Vegas Golden Knights of the National Hockey League since September 2018 . Before that, he spent ten years with the Canadiens de Montréal , which he also led for three years as captain .
Career
Max Pacioretty began his career as a hockey player with the Sioux City Musketeers, for which he was active in the United States Hockey League in the 2006/07 season . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2007 in the first round as a total of 22nd player by the Canadiens de Montréal . However, the attacker initially spent a season with the University of Michigan team before making his National Hockey League debut for the Canadiens in the 2008-09 season . For this he scored a total of eleven points scorer in 34 games, including three goals. In addition, the American was on the ice in 37 games for the Canadiens farm team from the American Hockey League , the Hamilton Bulldogs . There he contributed 29 scorer points, including six goals. Pacioretty was seriously injured on March 8, 2011 when Zdeno Chára checked a so-called turnbuckle. He broke the fourth cervical vertebra. Pacioretty made a successful comeback at the beginning of the 2011/12 season .
For the duration of the NHL lockout in the 2012/13 season, the striker was signed by the Swiss club HC Ambrì-Piotta in September 2012 . On October 16, 2012 Pacioretty left the club due to an elbow injury.
In the 2014/15 season, he and Nikita Kutscherow from the Tampa Bay Lightning won the NHL Plus / Minus Award, which was not officially awarded . In the off-season that followed , his teammates voted him the third US team captain in franchise history.
After a total of ten years in the organization of the Canadiens, Pacioretty was handed over to the Vegas Golden Knights in September 2018 after rumors of change that had existed for some time . In return, Tomáš Tatar , Nick Suzuki and a second-round vote for the 2019 NHL Entry Draft moved to Montréal. The American then signed a new four-year contract in Vegas, which should bring him an average annual salary of seven million US dollars from the start of the 2019/20 season.
International
For the USA Pacioretty took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2008 , with which he finished fourth. The striker remained without a scorer point in six games. He was also part of the US selection at the 2014 Winter Olympics and the 2016 World Cup of Hockey .
