Ryan Suter (born January 21, 1985 in Madison , Wisconsin ) is an American ice hockey player who has been with the Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League since July 2012 . Previously, the defender spent eight years in the Nashville Predators organization . With the US national team , he won the silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics .
Career
He played his first real ice hockey season in the 2003/04 season for the University of Wisconsin-Madison , where he achieved 19 points in 39 games in his rookie season , which was enough to be elected WCHA All-Rookie Defender. In 2003, he was also drawn seventh in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators .
In the 2004/05 season , the Predators brought him to their AHL farm team, the Milwaukee Admirals . As an AHL rookie, he got 23 points in 63 games. This performance reached the Predators to him for the 2005/06 season in the NHL team. However, Suter was much under criticism in his first NHL season, because Shea Weber , who was drafted one round after Suter, developed much faster and better than Suter. Still, he played a good season for a rookie. Suter was able to improve from season to season, so that he set a new personal record with 31 points in the 2007/08 season .
Suter took part with the United States in the 2010 Winter Olympics and won the silver medal with the team.
In the season 2016/17 Suter led together with his teammate Jason Zucker , the plus / minus statistic the NHL with +34 (Figs. NHL Plus / Minus Award ; not officially awarded more). At the beginning of the 2018/19 season, he also played his 1000th game in the NHL.
