Jared Spurgeon (born November 29, 1989 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been with the Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League since 2010 . His brother Tyler is also a hockey player.
Career
Jared Spurgeon began his career as a hockey player with the Spokane Chiefs , for which he was active from 2005 to 2010 in the Canadian Junior League Western Hockey League . With his team he won the Ed Chynoweth Cup , the championship title of the WHL, and then the Memorial Cup in the 2007/08 season . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2008 in the sixth round as a total of 156 players by the New York Islanders , for whom he never played. Instead, the defender signed a free agent contract with the Minnesota Wild in September 2010 . In the 2010-11 season he made his debut for the Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League . In his rookie year , he scored four goals and eight assists in 53 games. At the same time he played for their farm team Houston Eros in the American Hockey League . With the Eros he failed only in the final of the Calder Cup against the Binghamton Senators . In the 2011/12 season , the Canadian was active for the first time exclusively for the Minnesota Wild in the NHL and subsequently established himself in their line-up.
For the duration of the NHL lockout in the 2012/13 season, the defender was signed by the Swiss club SCL Tigers in September 2012 .
In the 2018/19 season, Spurgeon recorded his best personal statistic to date with 43 scorer points and then signed a new seven-year contract in Minnesota in September 2019, which earned him an average annual salary of around 7.5 million US dollars from the start of the 2020/21 season should bring in.
