Jordan Greenway (born February 16, 1997 in Canton , New York ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League since March 2018 . At international level, he was U18 and U20 world champion before he was called up to Team USA for the 2017 World Cup and the 2018 Winter Olympics .
Career
In his youth, Jordan Greenway attended the prestigious Shattuck-Saint Mary’s private school in Faribault , Minnesota, and went through their junior ice hockey teams. In 2013, the attacker switched to the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP), the central talent factory of the US American Association USA Hockey . With the selections of the NTDP, he took part in the game operations of the United States Hockey League (USHL), the highest junior league in the country, while he played a number of games outside of regular competitions in parallel. In 2015, Greenway retired from the funding program due to age and was selected by the Minnesota Wild in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft in 50th position.
Greenway then enrolled at Boston University , where he began studying psychology and for their ice hockey team, the Terriers , from then on he took part in Hockey East in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) game. Greenway also established himself as a regular scorer at Boston University, scoring 31 points in 37 games in the 2016/17 season . The following year he won the Hockey East championship with the Terriers and was himself elected to the Hockey East Third All-Star Team .
After college season ended, Greenway signed an entry-level deal with the Minnesota Wild in late March 2018 , before making his National Hockey League (NHL) debut a day later .
International
Greenway made his international debut as part of the NTDP, as its teams also act as junior national teams. The winger won the gold medal for the United States at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in January 2014 and at the U18 World Championship in 2015 . Another gold medal followed with the U20 national team at the U20 World Cup in 2017 , before he also made his debut for the senior team at the 2017 World Cup , where he finished fifth with Team USA .
At the end of December 2017 it was announced that Greenway would be part of the US contingent at the 2018 Winter Olympics . He benefited from the decision of the National Hockey League not to interrupt the season for this Olympiad and thus ban their players from participating. He hadn't yet signed a contract with the Minnesota Wild and was one of four college players on the team. In addition, he was the first African American to represent the United States in ice hockey at the Olympics. Finally, he finished seventh with the US selection in Pyeongchang.
