Victor Rask (born March 1, 1993 in Leksand ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Minnesota Wild from the National Hockey League since January 2019 and plays for them on the position of the center . With the Swedish national team , he won the gold medal at the 2017 World Cup .
Career
Victor Rask began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Leksands IF , for whose professional team he made his debut in the HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division, in the 2009/10 season . In his rookie year he remained pointless and punished in eight games. Subsequently, the center was selected in the fourth round of the KHL Junior Draft 2010 as the 89th Dinamo Riga player . Initially, however, he stayed with his home club and increased in the 2010/11 season to eleven scorer points, including five goals, in 37 second division games. Then the elected him Carolina Hurricanes in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft in the second round than a total of 42 players. Meanwhile, the attacker had still played for the U20 juniors of the club with which he won Swedish champions of this age group in 2010.
For the 2011/12 season Rask moved to the Calgary Hitmen from the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League . In addition, he signed his entry-level contract with the Hurricanes. Initially, the center forward played for the Hitmen in the WHL for two seasons before he was brought into the American Hockey League by Carolina on their farm team , the Charlotte Checkers , during the 2012/13 season . There he also spent the 2013/14 season before he was appointed to the Hurricanes' NHL squad for the following season. There the Swede became a regular player and stayed with the team until January 2019. After he had only scored one goal and prepared five more by January 2019, he was transferred to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for the Swiss Nino Niederreiter .
International
For Sweden , Rask took part in the junior division at the U18 World Junior Championships in 2010 and 2011 . In both tournaments he and his team won the silver medal. At the 2011 tournament he was also voted one of the top three players on his team.
In the World Cup 2015 Rask made his debut in the senior section before it in the World Cup in 2017 with the Tre Kronor won the gold medal.
