The 2012/13 WHL season was the 47th season of the Western Hockey League . The regular season began on September 20, 2012 and ended on March 17, 2012. The Portland Winterhawks won the Scotty Munro Memorial Trophy as the team with the highest points in the preliminary round . The play-offs began on March 21, 2013 ended with the third Ed Chynoweth Cup win of the Portland Winterhawks on May 12, 2013, who prevailed in the WHL final against the Edmonton Oil Kings .
