The Victoria Royals are a Canadian ice hockey team from Victoria , British Columbia . The team has been playing in one of the three highest Canadian junior ice hockey leagues, the Western Hockey League (WHL) , since 2011 .
history
The Chilliwack Bruins from Chilliwack , British Columbia , were relocated to Victoria following the 2010/11 season and renamed Victoria Royals. The relocation was made possible by the dissolution of the Victoria Salmon Kings , who played in the ECHL from 2004 to 2011 . Before that, the city was already an integral part of the WHL from 1971 to 1994 - represented by the Victoria Cougars . The Canadian Marc Habscheid , who once played over 300 games in the National Hockey League and who has already coached the Chilliwack Bruins, was signed as the first coach and general manager . After the 2011/12 debut season , Habscheid surprisingly resigned from both offices. In July 2012, Cameron Hope was introduced as a new General Manager and Dave Lowry as a new head coach.
