The Winnipeg Ice are a Canadian junior ice hockey team based in Winnipeg , Manitoba . The team has been part of the Western Hockey League since 2019 and plays its home games at the Max Bell Center .
history
The History of Ice began in 1996 as the Edmonton Ice in Edmonton before the team more than 20 years in Cranbrook in the province of British Columbia was settled. There it was renamed as the Kootenay Ice , following the Indian tribe of Kootenay . In 2017 the franchise was bought by a group of investors from Winnipeg , who announced in January 2019 that the team would be relocated there for the 2019/20 season . The logo and the team colors have been retained, and James Patrick will continue to act as head coach. The Ice will initially play their home games in the Wayne Fleming Arena of the Max Bell Center , as will the University of Manitoba's ice hockey teams . However, a new venue is already under construction.
