The Spokane Flyers were an ice hockey team from Spokane , Washington State . The team played in one of the top three Canadian junior ice hockey leagues, the Western Hockey League (WHL), from 1980 to 1981 .

history

The inactive franchise of Great Falls Americans of the Western Hockey League was reactivated in 1980 and settled under the name Spokane Flyers in Spokane. In their first season, the team immediately reached the playoffs for the Ed Chynoweth Cup , in which they were defeated by the eventual champions Victoria Cougars in the second round with a sweep in the best-of-seven series. In the 1981/82 season, the Washington team withdrew from the WHL after 26 games in which it only achieved three wins. This was the case with her previous Great Falls team. After their dissolution, the Flyers drew attention once again by participating in a bizarre swap. Their team bus, which they had sold to the Victoria Cougars, was given to the Seattle Breakers in exchange for the future NHL player Tom Martin on December 19, 1983 , as the owners of the Cougars were not prepared to pay for the bus's import duties Canada come up.

The void left by the dissolution of the franchise was filled in 1985 by the Spokane Chiefs , who have since participated in the WHL's gaming operations.
