The Kelowna Rockets are a Canadian ice hockey team from Kelowna , British Columbia that plays in the junior division of the Western Hockey League .
history
In 1991 the team was founded as Tacoma Rockets , followed in 1995 by relocation to Kelowna. Between 2003 and 2005, the Rockets took part three times in the final of the Memorial Cup , the championship of the umbrella organization CHL , which is played annually between the champions of the three Canadian top junior leagues WHL, OHL and QMJHL . In 2004, the Rockets won the Memorial Cup as host and thus fourth participant in the finals. Today the Kelowna Rockets play their home games in Prospera Place , between 1995 and 1999 they played in the Kelowna Memorial Arena .
The team's mascot is Ogopogo , the legendary monster of Lake Okanagan . Although the team name is Kelowna Rockets , there is no rocket in the team logo or on the playing attire.
