Nolan Yonkman (born April 1, 1981 in Punnichy , Saskatchewan ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was most recently under contract with JYP Jyväskylä in the Finnish Liiga .
Career
Nolan Yonkman began his career as a hockey player in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League , in which he was active from 1996 to 2001 for the Kelowna Rockets and Brandon Wheat Kings . During this period he was selected in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft in the second round as a total of 37th player by the Washington Capitals . For their farm team Portland Pirates , the defender played in the American Hockey League from 2001 to 2005 , but from 2002 he missed a large part of the games due to several serious knee injuries. In his first four years in the Washington Capitals franchise , he only made twelve appearances in the National Hockey League . It was not until the 2005/06 season that he received more ice time in the NHL when he prepared seven goals in 38 games for Washington. At the same time, he played six games for Washington's new AHL farm team Hershey Bears .
On July 17, 2006, Yonkman signed a contract as a free agent with the Nashville Predators , but played in the following four years exclusively for their AHL farm team Milwaukee Admirals , where he was team captain from 2007 to 2010. In July 2010, the Canadian moved to the Phoenix Coyotes , for whom he prepared a goal in 16 NHL games in the 2010/11 season . Most of the season he spent, however, with their AHL farm team San Antonio Rampage . In July 2011 he received a contract as a free agent with the Florida Panthers , which used him mainly in the farm team at the San Antonio Rampage for the following three seasons. In July 2013, the Canadian signed a one-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks .
This was not extended in the summer of 2014, so that Yonkman joined the training camp of the Calgary Flames , but could not prevail there in the preparation for the season and was then firmly committed by their farm team, the Adirondack Flames . There he acts, as in Milwaukee and San Antonio, as team captain . After a year in Adirondack, Yonkman left North America for the first time and joined JYP Jyväskylä from the Finnish Liiga in May 2015 . In 2018 he won the Champions Hockey League with JYP .
