Dale Purinton (born October 11, 1976 in Fort Wayne , Indiana ) is a former American ice hockey player and current coach who has played for the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League during his playing career .
Career
Purinton was selected in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round as 117th player by the New York Rangers . During his junior years he played for the Moose Jaw Warriors , Tacoma Rockets , Kelowna Rockets and Lethbridge Hurricanes in the Western Hockey League . For the 1997/98 season Purinton came to the Hartford Wolf Pack in the American Hockey League for use. In the 1999/2000 season , the Enforcer achieved the final breakthrough in the AHL when he came to a total of 415 penalty minutes in 62 games of the regular season , this was the third-best value this season. In the finals of the Calder Cup , the team defeated the Rochester Americans in six games and won the prestigious trophy. As a result, Purinton recommended himself for the NHL squad of Rangers, where he came to 42 missions the following year and filled his role as enforcer.
In the following three years he came to at least 40 games in the National Hockey League , but could not achieve any particular success with the Rangers. The NHL season 2004/05 , which was canceled due to a lockout , he spent with the Victoria Salmon Kings in the ECHL . In the 2005/06 season he came to only 35 games for the Hartford Wolf Park, since Purinton had to sit out in November 2005 due to a knee injury and a finger injury two months later made him again out of play. In July 2007 he signed a contract with the Colorado Avalanche , but he did not make the NHL squad and played in the 2007/08 season for the Lake Erie Monsters in the AHL before ending his career at the end of the season.
In October 2009, Purinton took the job as head coach with the Cowichan Valley Capitals in the British Columbia Hockey League .
