history

The Tacoma Rockets were founded in 1991 as a franchise of the Western Hockey League . In their first season, the team reached the playoffs for the Ed Chynoweth Cup with sixth place in the West Division , but was defeated in the first round by the Kamloops Blazers with a sweep in the best-of-seven series. In the 1992/93 season, the team from Washington was able to improve significantly in the regular season by reaching second place in the West Division, but was eliminated again in the first playoff round, this time the Spokane Chiefs narrowly with 3: 4 victories. The Tacoma Rockets achieved their greatest success when they reached the second round in the following year. After they failed in the playoff qualification in the 1994/95 season, the franchise was relocated to Kelowna , British Columbia , where it has since participated in the game operations of the WHL under the name Kelowna Rockets .
