Lasse Pirjetä (born April 4, 1974 in Haukipudas ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who played for the Columbus Blue Jackets and Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League from 1989 to 2009 .

Career

Lasse Pirjetä began his career as an ice hockey player at Kärpät Oulu , for whose professional team he made his debut in the then second-class I divisioona at the beginning of the 1991/92 season. However, he spent the rest of the season with the Tacoma Rockets in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League . The center then returned to Oulu, where he played for Kärpät for another year in the Finnish second division before moving to TPS Turku in the SM-liiga . With TPS he was runner-up in 1994 and 1996 and was able to win the Finnish championship in the 1994/95 season .

Pirjetä spent the 1996/97 season at Västra Frölunda in the Swedish Elitserien . For Frölunda he scored a total of 23 scorer points in 53 games . After only one year he left the club and was under contract with Tappara Tampere , HIFK Helsinki and Kärpät Oulu in the SM-liiga for the next five years . 2002 Pirjetä was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round as a total of 133rd player from the Columbus Blue Jackets . With these he was able to fight for a regular place in the National Hockey League before he was given to the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 9, 2004 in exchange for Brian Holzinger . There he was under contract for almost two years, although the 2004/05 season was canceled due to a lockout and he spent it at his ex-club HIFK Helsinki in his Finnish homeland.

After starting the 2005/06 season with the Pittsburgh Penguins, the former Finnish international moved to Kloten Flyers in the Swiss National League A on January 20, 2006 . With the Flyers he reached the playoff semi-finals , in which the Flyers were defeated by HC Lugano 1: 4. In the summer of 2006 Pirjetä left the club again and joined the Malmö Redhawks from the Elitserien, with whom he was relegated to the HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division, at the end of the 2006/07 season. In the 2007/08 season he only made 14 missions due to injury. After the end of the season he returned to Finland and received a contract with the Pelicans Lahti , where he ended his career at the age of 35 following the 2008/09 season .

International

For Finland , Pirjetä only took part in the junior European championship in 1992. In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the World Championships in 2002 , 2003 and 2004 , and in 2004 and 2005 at the Euro Hockey Tour . Overall, he scored four goals in 24 games in international matches for Finland, which took place in official tournaments and gave one template.
