Namakdan

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Namakdan (Namak = salt ( Farsi )) are oriental salt bags. These bags are used to store salt and have a bottle-like format. Salt is not only needed by the nomads for their daily life, but also for their animals during their migration.

Namakdans are primarily woven by the Afshar , a people of Turkic origin who belong to the Oghuz people of today's Iran . There are also important production areas in Balochistan and Lorestan . The bags are regularly woven in such a way that one can slide one hand in through the "neck of the bottle" to remove salt.
