Kyle Edgar McLaren (born June 18, 1977 in Coaldale , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 789 games for the Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks in the National Hockey League in the course of his active career between 1993 and 2009 of the defense attorney has denied. In 1996, McLaren was elected to the NHL All-Rookie Team .

Career

McLaren began his junior career in 1993 in the Western Hockey League with the Tacoma Rockets . After a mixed rookie season, the defensive defender increased in his second and final season, which led to him being selected in the first round of the 1995 NHL Entry Draft in ninth place by the Boston Bruins .

The Canadian made the leap into the regular Bruins squad for the 1995/96 season and remained loyal to them for the following seven years. In his NHL rookie season, the officials appointed him to the league's all-rookie team because of his performance . The decisive factor was that he had ended the season with a value of +16 in the plus / minus statistics. His best year in terms of points in Boston he had in the 1997/98 season when he scored 25 points in 66 games, the following year it was 24 points in just 52 games. After McLaren had been out for a long time in the 2001/02 season due to a chest and wrist injury and had only played 38 games, the management of the Boston Bruins offered him a contract extension during the summer break at significantly worse terms than before. The defender, who was not satisfied with it, subsequently refused to continue playing for the Bruins and obtained a transfer to the San Jose Sharks in January 2003 , which in return gave Jeff Jillson and Jeff Hackett to Boston. At the San Jose Sharks, McLaren quickly developed, alongside Scott Hannan , to become a leader in the team's defensive team, which is peppered with young players. Even in his offensive production, after initial problems, he was able to build on the best times in Boston. In the 2007/08 season, however , numerous injuries and knee problems limited his playing times. During this time, the other defensive-minded defenders in Team McLaren's place filled well, causing him to temporarily lose his regular place in the defensive network.

McLaren's time with the Sharks finally ended in October 2008 just before the start of the 2008-09 season when he was put on the waiver list. That summer, San Jose had tried unsuccessfully to get him involved in a transfer deal. Due to various new signings on the defensive, the Sharks no longer had any use for the injury-prone Canadian, whose salary also gave the club no scope for further transfers. Since no team signed him off the waiver list within 24 hours, those responsible sent him to the Worcester Sharks , the San Joses farm team , in the American Hockey League . After McLaren had spent most of the season there, but was also absent due to injury, management finally managed to find a new employer for the Canadian on March 4, 2009 in exchange for a six-round draft right in the Philadelphia Flyers . However, there he failed the medical test, whereupon the Flyers canceled the transfer. As a result, McLaren withdrew from active professional sport.

International

McLaren played at the 2001 World Cup for his native Canada , with which he finished fifth.
