As Saftladen it disparagingly referred generally shops or service companies that too little, little useful or less quality of goods and / or price of services result in a poor return have yielded their staff unfriendly and / or are incompetent or generally in poor or at least have a dubious reputation . Sometimes the term is used only jokingly or colloquially in a casual way, without wanting to express a real devaluation. Shops that offer freshly squeezed juices or a large selection of (organic) juices in bottles, i.e. more high-priced products, sometimes use this name - reinterpreting the derogatory word for its composition components. The term also appears in company names and slogans for advertising purposes .

etymology

According to Heinrich Dingeldein from the Marburg Research Institute for the German Language , the first linguistic evidence for this expression can be found in the 19th century in the Berlin area as a fun name for a pharmacy . At the beginning of the 20th century, the term was carried over to liquor stores , stills, beer bars, taverns - and from there to everything with such a dubious reputation.
