The Moose Jaw Canucks were a Canadian ice hockey team from Moose Jaw , Saskatchewan . The team played from 1966 to 1968 in one of the top three Canadian junior ice hockey leagues, the Western Hockey League (WHL).
history
The Moose Jaw Canucks were founded in 1935 as a team in the Southern Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League , in which they played until 1948. This was followed by eight years in the Western Canada Junior Hockey League and ten years in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League before they became one of seven founding members of the Western Hockey League in 1966 . After the Moose Jaw Canucks had reached fourth place in the regular season in the 1966/67 season, they first prevailed in the playoff semifinals 3-2 in the best-of-five series against the Edmonton Oil Kings , for which you even needed nine games due to four draws. In the final, Moose Jaw defeated the Regina Pats 4-1 in the best-of-seven series and was the first team ever to win the Ed Chynoweth Cup .
Despite the increase to eleven participants for the 1967/68 season, the Moose Jaw Cannucks were able to maintain their fourth place from the previous year in the regular season. In the subsequent playoffs they prevailed with 4: 3 wins in a draw against the Brandon Wheat Kings before they clearly failed in the semifinals at the Estevan Bruins with 0: 4 wins in a draw. Although they had completed two successful seasons in the WHL, they left it again in 1969 and played until their dissolution in 1984 in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League , in which their greatest success was reaching the finals in the 1979/80 season. With their dissolution, the Canucks made way for the new WHL franchise in Moose Jaw , the Moose Jaw Warriors , who have been participating in the WHL's gaming operations since 1985.
