The Tri-City Americans are an ice hockey team from Kennewick , part of the Tri-Cities in Washington state . The team has played in one of Canada's three highest junior ice hockey leagues, the Western Hockey League (WHL) , since 1988 .
history
The New Westminster Bruins from the Western Hockey League were relocated to Kennewick in 1988 and renamed Tri-City Americans. After they had always reached the playoffs for the Ed Chynoweth Cup in the first eight years of its existence , the team missed this for the first time in the 1996/97 season. In the following six years they reached the playoffs only three times, but since 2003 the team from Washington has continuously improved and has always reached the playoffs since then. The Americans achieved their greatest success when they reached the final of the Western Conference in the 2007/08 season, in which they were defeated by the Spokane Chiefs in the best-of-seven series with just 3: 4 wins. They also won the US division twice in a row (2008 and 2009).
