Todd W. Simpson (born May 28, 1973 in North Vancouver , British Columbia ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played for the Hannover Scorpions in the German Ice Hockey League in the 2006/07 season .

Career

As a junior, he initially played for Brown University in the NCAA , but then moved to the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League to the Tri-City Americans and later to the Saskatoon Blades .

In the summer of 1994 he signed a contract with the Calgary Flames from the National Hockey League . However, those responsible for the Flames initially used the left-handed shooter in the American Hockey League with the then farm team Saint John Flames . He made his NHL debut in the 1995/96 season when he wore the jersey of the Calgary Flames six times. In the following year he was part of the regular squad. His body-hugging style of play let him lead the rookies in the 1996/97 season in penalty minutes. He started the 1999/00 season for the Florida Panthers and after a year and a half he moved to the Phoenix Coyotes .

From the 2003/04 season , his career was marked by numerous changes. In two seasons he gave a short guest appearance with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , the Ottawa Senators , the Chicago Blackhawks and the Montréal Canadiens .

After these many changes, the 191 cm tall and 99 kg heavy defender decided to move to the Hanover Scorpions in the German Ice Hockey League for the 2006/07 season . After he played a good season with the Hannover Scorpions, the New York Islanders brought him back to the NHL, but he was not used because he had to serve a suspension that he had earned in the last play-off game in the DEL. Because of an attack on the referee, he was suspended for 12 games. After the 2006/07 season, Simpson ended his active ice hockey career.
