William Hamilton "Bill" Lindsay (born May 17, 1971 in Fernie , British Columbia ) is a former US American - Canadian ice hockey player who played 819 games for the Nordiques de Québec , Florida Panthers between 1988 and 2007 , Calgary Flames , Canadiens de Montréal and Atlanta Thrashers in the National Hockey League on the position of left winger . In addition, Lindsay played for the Kölner Haie in the German Ice Hockey League for two years .
Career
Bill Lindsay began playing ice hockey in his native British Columbia when he was six . As a teenager, the left-handed shooter first played in the British Columbia Junior Hockey League for the Vernon Lakers , and later moved to the Western Hockey League for the Tri-City Americans .
With good statistics and his fighting spirit, Lindsay attracted the attention of clubs from the National Hockey League . In the 1991 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in 103rd place by the Nordiques de Québec . This committed him to the following season, half of which he spent with the farm team in Halifax . A year later he prevailed in the NHL as a regular player. Lindsay played another year in Quebec before he was switched to the Florida Panthers in 1993 . He played with the Miami- based Panthers for a total of six years . His personal best season was also the most successful in the history of the Panthers: In 1995/96 Florida reached the final of the Stanley Cup for the only time so far , but was defeated by the Colorado Avalanche in four games. Including the playoffs, Lindsay recorded 44 scorer points in 95 games.
Then he reached the playoffs again - the following year - with the Panthers, but failed in the conference quarter-finals. Even with the Calgary Flames , for which he was on the ice in a total of 132 games from 1999 to 2001, he did not reach the playoffs. Only with the San Jose Sharks , to whom he had been transferred during his second season in Calgary, did the attacker make it to the finals again. After that season he returned to the Florida Panthers, but shortly after moved on to the Canadiens de Montréal . In the 2002/03 season he came to sporadic assignments in the NHL team and spent most of the year in the farm team of the Canadiens, the Hamilton Bulldogs , in the American Hockey League . With the Bulldogs he reached the final of the playoffs.
After joining the Atlanta Thrashers in 2003, he commuted between the NHL team and the AHL for a year. The lockout - 2004/05 season he spent in the ECHL with the Long Beach Ice Dogs before the winger to the 2005/06 season the Columbus Blue Jackets joined. There he was only used in the farm team in Syracuse . When the Kölner Haie successfully asked his club for Lindsay's release in autumn 2005, the NHL veteran moved to Europe for the first time in his career. After good performances in the first games, Lindsay extended his contract, which initially ran until the end of the season, until 2007. When it ran out, he ended his active career.
Since 2009, Bill Lindsay has been working for the US sports broadcaster Fox Sports on games of the Florida Panthers as an expert and co-commentator alongside Steve Goldstein.
International
Lindsay participated with the US selection at the Junior World Championship in 1991 and the World Championship in 1994 . At the Junior World Cup in 1991, which Lindsay finished with the USA in fourth place, he scored three goals and five assists in seven matches. Three years later, the winger finished fourth again at the 1994 World Cup with the United States and contributed to this placement with three hits and one assist .
