Vladimír Vůjtek junior (born February 17, 1972 in Ostrava , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player who worked for the Canadiens de Montréal , Edmonton Oilers , Tampa Bay Lightning , Atlanta Thrashers and the Pittsburgh Penguins from 1988 to 2007 played in the National Hockey League . His father, Vladimír Vůjtek senior, is a professional ice hockey coach .

Career

Vladimír Vůjtek junior began his career as a hockey player at TJ Vítkovice , for whose professional team he made his debut in the first division , the highest Czechoslovak division, in the 1988/89 season . In three games he gave one assist. In the following season the winger was able to increase to seven goals and as many assists in 29 appearances. He also began the 1990/91 season in Vítkovice, but moved during the season to the Tri-City Americans , for whom he went hunting for goals in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League in the following year and a half . In the 1991 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the fourth round as the 73rd player of the Canadiens de Montréal . After he was able to completely convince in his second WHL season with 102 points, including 41 goals, in 53 games, he also came to two appearances for Montréal in the National Hockey League in the 1991/92 season . In addition, he was elected to the First All-Star Team of the Western Conference of the WHL, as well as the third All-Star Team of the Canadian Hockey League , the umbrella organization of the Canadian top junior leagues.

On August 27, 1992 Vůjtek was given together with Shayne Corson and Brent Gilchrist in exchange for Vincent Damphousse and a four-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 1993 to the Edmonton Oilers . In the following two years he came in parallel for the Oilers in the NHL, and their farm team , the Cape Breton Oilers , in the American Hockey League . The Czech won the Calder Cup with Cape Breton in the 1992/93 season . After he was used in the 1994/95 season only for Edmonton's farm team Cape Breton in the AHL and the Las Vegas Thunder in the International Hockey League , he returned to Vítkovice, for which he competed in the Czech extra league in the following year and a half . The left shooter spent the 1996/97 season at Ässät Pori in the Finnish SM-liiga . Then gave him the Edmonton Oilers, who still held the transfer rights to the player, from their league rivals Tampa Bay Lightning . In the 1997/98 season he was only able to complete 30 games for Tampa Bay in the NHL and two for their AHL farm team Adirondack Red Wings because he fell ill with the Epstein-Barr virus .

In the 1998/99 season Vůjtek was able to convince at his home club HC Vítkovice in the Extraliga and scored 55 points scorer in 47 games. Then the Atlanta Thrashers signed him as a free agent , but could not prevail in the following period and only complete three games in the NHL after he suffered severe facial injuries in a preparatory game against the New York Rangers . In the further course of the 1999/2000 season , the former national player played for HC Sparta Prague , with whom he immediately became Czech champion . At European level he and his team took second place in the European Hockey League , in which he and his team lost 2-0 to the top Russian club HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the final . Vůjtek, who scored two goals and two assists in four games in the final round, was elected to the All-Star Team of the Final Four. Also in the following season he ran for Sparta Prague, before taking third place in the Finnish SM-liiga in the 2001/02 season with HPK Hämeenlinna . The Czech was also able to convince the Finns. In November 2001 he was elected Player of the Month for the SM-liiga, at the end of the season even in their All-Star Team. Therefore, the Pittsburgh Penguins committed him , where he failed again with the attempt to establish himself in the NHL. He then ran six times for Vítkovice in the Extraliga, before ending the 2002/03 season at Severstal Tscherepowez in the Russian Super League .

The 2003/04 season began Vůjtek at his ex-club HPK Hämeenlinna in Finland, but ended the season again in the Russian Super League, but this time at Chimik Woskressensk . After another season for Vítkovice in the Czech Republic, the former NHL player was on the ice in the 2005/06 season at Forward Morges HC in National League B , and the ZSC Lions in National League A before the season finished at his home club HC Vítkovice. He spent the 2006/07 season at HC Oceláři Třinec before ending his career at the age of 35.

Since 2007 he has been working as a player agent for Eurohockey Services sro in Prague.

International

For the Czech national team , Vůjtek took part exclusively in the 1997 World Cup. With this he was able to convince completely. With seven goals and as many assists he led his team to win the bronze medal and was both top scorer and top scorer of the tournament. He was also elected to the All-Star Team of the World Cup.
