The 1999/2000 season was the seventh regular staging of the Czech extra league . In the play-off final, HC Sparta Prague prevailed against HC Slovnaft Vsetín with 3-0 and thus ended the championship series of the team from Vsetín . In the first division of the Czech Republic , HC Dukla Jihlava won the play-off final a year after relegation and met HC Vítkovice in relegation , but failed 0-4 against the bottom of the table in the Extraliga.

mode

In 52 games, all teams play two complete double rounds, so each team has 26 home and away games. The teams in places 1 to 8 qualify directly for the play-offs, which are played in the best-of-five mode . For the teams in places 9 to 13, the season ends after the main round. At the end of the season, in addition to the playoffs, there will be a relegation, in which the last placed team of the Extraliga and the winner of the play-off final of the 1st division take part. In the best-of-seven mode with a maximum of seven games per team, the promoted to the extra league or relegated to the first division is determined.

Before the start of the season, the HC Bohemex Trade Opava sold its Extraliga license to HC Femax Havířov , who had previously played in the 1st division .

The team of HC Sparta Prague prevailed with 3-0 against HC Slovnaft Vsetín and thus ended the series of five Czech championship titles in a row. The final was won mainly thanks to a strong goalkeeping performance by Petr Bříza , who achieved two shutouts in three games and was consequently named Most Valuable Player of the playoffs (GAA of 1.09; Sv of 96.74%). The decisive goal to make it 0-1 in the third game of the final was scored by David Výborný , who was also the top scorer in the playoff. In addition to the championship title, the players of HC Sparta Prague also won almost all awards in the Extraliga, with František Kučera named Player and Defender of the Year and František Výborný named Coach of the Year .

In the previous season, HC Dukla Jihlava was relegated from the Extraliga and in 1999/2000 won the championship of the 1st division. In the relegation, the former top club of Czechoslovakia had no chance against HC Vítkovice, so the team from Jihlava remained in the first division.
