From 1990 he looked after the junior teams of HC Sparta Prague before he replaced Pavel Wohl as head coach of the men's team during the 1994/95 season . The following season he reached third place in the league with Sparta before moving to the Slovenian club HK Jesenice in the summer of 1996 .

In October 2005 he returned to the Czech Republic and has been a full-time trainer for Sparta Prague ever since. With Sparta he was able to become Czech champion both in 2006 and 2007 . Before the 2009/10 season he gave up the post of head coach to Pavel Hynek and became his assistant coach. In October 2009, the entire coaching staff was dismissed due to sporting failure.
