Pavel Hynek (born January 4, 1970 in Prague ) is a Czech ice hockey coach who has been under contract as the head coach of the Bílí Tygři Liberec from the Czech extra league since January 2013 .

Career

At the age of six, Pavel Hynek began playing ice hockey in the offspring of HC Sparta Prague thanks to his father, who gave him the choice between ice hockey and football . There he went through all the youth teams and, after graduating from school, began studying at Charles University in Prague . In addition to his coaching studies, he played in the third division of the Czech Republic, the 2nd division, for the ČLTK Prague . He also works as a youth coach at Sparta Prague. After completing his studies, his home club offered him a junior coaching position, which he accepted with surprise. In addition, he ended his playing career at the age of 25 and devoted himself entirely to work as an ice hockey coach.

In the following three years he looked after Sparta's junior teams and was also appointed assistant coach of the U18 national team. His first job in the men's area followed when he became the coach of HC Beroun . At the beginning of the following season he was offered the opportunity to become František Výborný's assistant coach at Sparta Prague . He accepted the offer and was part of the coaching staff of his home club for the next four years, first under Výborný, later under Václav Sýkora . During this time he won two Czech championship titles with Sparta and was also head coach of the U20 national team, with whom he became U20 world champion in 2000 .

In the summer of 2003, Hynek followed his mentor František Výborný to HC Litvínov , where he was its assistant coach for one season. Then he was offered the position of head coach at HC Ústí nad Labem , who had ambitions for promotion to the extra league. Hynek accepted this challenge and reached the play-offs of the 1st division with the Lions in the 2004/05 season . In this his team failed only in the final at HC České Budějovice . In the following season, Hynek and his team won the championship of the first division and thus qualified for the promotion games against HC Vsetín . This lost the HC Ústí nad Labem 2: 4 after six games and thus remained in the first division. At the end of the 2006/07 season, HC Ústí nad Labem again won the championship of the 1st division and was accepted into the Extraliga, as HC Vsetín was refused the license. This success no longer influenced Hynek, as he was sacked nine game days before the end of the main round after his team had not won four games in a row.

In the 2007/08 season he was assistant coach to Václav Sýkora at HC Znojemští Orli . In the following season he got his first head coach position in the extra league at HC Plzeň , which he led through the pre-playoffs to the playoff semifinals. Due to this success, his home club, HC Sparta Prague, signed Hynek as head coach in the summer of 2009. His assistant was the previous head coach, František Výborný. After a series of defeats, both Hynek and Výborný were released after the 20th match day of the 2009/10 season .

At the same time Josef Paleček was fired from HC Energie Karlovy Vary and replaced by Hynek on November 3, 2009. He got a contract there until the end of the 2010/11 season.

František Výborný moved as head coach to HC České Budějovice . Hynek's contract in Karlovy Vary was terminated on March 3, 2010, as the champions of the previous year did not get into the play-offs and lost the first game against the bottom of the table in the play-outs. His successor was Josef Paleček, who was also Hynek's predecessor.

Hynek was signed by HC Slovan Bratislava before the 2010/11 season , but released there in November. Shortly afterwards he received the offer to become an assistant coach at HC Pardubice . He accepted this offer. From the beginning of the 2011/12 season, Hynek and Ladislav Lubina were equal coaches of the HCP and won the Czech championship with the team at the end of the season . On November 6, 2012 Hynek was dismissed from Pardubice and this replaced Filip Pešán at the Bílí Tygři Liberec as head coach at the end of January 2013 . Hynek worked for the White Tigers until October 2014 before he was released. At the beginning of the next season he was head coach at HC Slavia Prague in the 1st division , but was dismissed again in December 2015.

Between 2016 and 2018 he was assistant coach at Mountfield HK in the Extraliga, before he was signed by HK Sochi from the Continental Hockey League for the 2018/19 season .
