Yuri Alexandrowitsch Alexandrow ( Russian Юрий Александрович Александров ; born June 24, 1988 in Tscherepowez , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HK Sochi in the Continental Hockey League since October 2016 .

Career

Yuri Alexandrow began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior division of Severstal Cherepovets , for whose second team he was active in the Pervaya League , the third Russian division, from 2003 to 2005 . The defender then made his debut for Cherepovets' professional team in the Superliga in the 2005/06 season . He scored one goal in 39 games and gave an assist. Due to his successful rookie year that eventually elected him Boston Bruins in the NHL Entry Draft in 2006 in the second round than a total of 37 players. The Russian junior international stayed with his hometown club, with whom he competed in the newly founded Continental Hockey League from the 2008/09 season . In the summer of 2010, the Bruins brought him to North America, gave him an entry-level contract for two years and used him the following season with their farm team, the Providence Bruins , in the American Hockey League .

In August 2011 he returned to Russia and was signed by SKA Saint Petersburg . For this he played twelve games at the beginning of the 2011/12 season , in which he prepared a goal before he was transferred to HK Awangard Omsk in December 2011 in exchange for Andrei Pervyschin . With Awangard he reached the playoff final for the Gagarin Cup , with Alexandrow scoring 11 points in 34 games. In late March 2012, the NHL transfer rights changed from the Bruins to the New York Islanders .

In June 2012 Alexandrov returned to the SKA and won the Gagarin Cup with it in 2015 . He then returned to Awangard Omsk in exchange for the KHL transfer rights to Alexander Khochlatschow . After a year in Omsk, his contract ran out and Alexandrow moved to HK Sochi .

International

For Russia , Alexandrov took part in the U18 World Junior Championships in 2006 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 2007 and 2008 .
